PlayStation Editor Converts to "Darkside"

An unexpected Sony turncoat takes a swipe the pricey powerhouse that is destined to be the PS3. Loss of support for the unit has become a common theme ever since the price, delays and technical compromises were announced.

PS3 is slated for release in Q4 ’06, hopefully by this Christmas; but Sony’s track record is not great when it comes to delivering the goods when promised. Hey Sony, we’re still waiting for double density Blu-ray disks.

Sony’s arrogant pride led the company to jump the technology curve for the approximate lifespan of the new generation console. Sure, hardware can never have enough power, disk space, memory, etc. But let’s not forget the PS3 is destined to be replaced in three to five years. Does the inclusion of HDMI, 1080P and Blu-ray truly add any value to the gaming experience? Although these features are nice, they’re becoming more of an impediment to the overall PS3 package.

Please, tell me why a game console needs a Blu-ray disk player and then explain to me the benefits of including an HDMI port?

“…it becomes harder for me to justify shelling out that kind of money--especially when I can probably get the Wii and the 360 combined for the cost of a PS3.
                                             – Dana Jongenwaard, Editor Official US PlayStation Magazine.

This latest strike against Sony comes from within its own camp. A veritable Benedict Arnold among PlayStation-philes, Dana Jongewarrd is an editor for Official PlayStation Magazine and recently said she won’t buy the PS3 at its announced price.

Contrary to popular belief, she assures readers, editors of Sony’s PlayStation Mag don’t get free hardware. So, just like the rest of us schlubs, they will be standing in line to buy their PS3 when it’s released this winter. In her personal blog, Dana J says she found her enthusiasm sagging after the $600 price tag was announced. Apparently she doesn’t feel the cost is worthwhile since competitor's products are selling at less than half the price Sony is asking.

Way to go Dana J! Taking a stand even though it might be unpopular among the PS3 readership is what separates a mouthpiece from a real editor with the cojones to say what’s on her mind. In fact take a look at the picture from her blog below. Does she look like the kind of person to mince words?

Yore sound like a Micosoft shill. This post and the one about the CELL processor who cares what micorsofot thinks about the cell?!?!?

PS3 is going to be the BEST, is it really expensive? A $600 Blu-ray player that also happens to be the most powerful gaming maching made is looking like a pretty good deal to me.

You know something? When Playstation 1 came out, I paid $550 for it at a Costco. Then when PS2 came out, I bought it for around $490 at EB. Now PS3 is on the way . . . and I am very satisfied with Playstation's track record to date . . .so I have to say, $600 won't stop me from buying one. I have grown very loyal to Playstation, especially after finally going out and getting an Xbox. I have found Xbox titles to be good looking, but the games lack any depth . . .Xbox is pretty much meant for those of you who enjoy sports games. Any of us who like games that take actual brains are waiting gleefully for the PS3 . . . So I say to you Wayde . . .$600 won't stop me.

Lightning on the other hand . . .that might stop me . . . Fire . . .yeah that could too.

With the number of Sony Playstation 3 consoles only trickling into retailers, Best Buy will allegedly be offering disappointed PS3 fans a free Xbox 360 game with the purchase of Microsoft’s console, instead.
