RIAA Invasion of Russian Music Service Gaining Ground

Efforts from the RIAA to stop www.AllOfMP3.com may finally be working. For months the US Government has been pressuring Russia to stop AllOfMP3.com or risk being blocked from WTO membership. AllOfMP3.com insists they’re following Russian law and denies that Russia’s entry to WTO is of any concern.

The pressure may finally be working on Russian officials. According to a letter from the US Trade Representative Russia is planning to shut down the infamous music dealer. So if you have any credit left on AllOfMP3.com it might be a good time to use it up.

AllOfMP3.com is easily the best source of music online. No dealing with P2P clients and mall-ware garbage, nor bit torrents. What you get is consistent quality MP3 music files at much lower than market costs with no DRM. You’d think the RIAA would take AllOfMP3’s success as evidence that people are willing to pay for music, lots and lots of music at reasonable prices without DRM. All the recording industry has to do is lower the price and people will buy it online. They could kill AllOfMP3.com by giving customers a better deal. But, why try to compete in the arena of market economics when you can use the US Government to do your dirty work.

I've spent more at allofmp3 over the last year than I did in the sum of the previous 8 years and I can't imagine I am alone in that behavior. I guess I will go back to listening to the radio and downloading my mp3s the old-fashioned way.

I dropped $50 US on allofMP3.com about a month ago and used it all up in no more two weeks.

I often buy the newer stuff then get diverted using this website:

www.allmusic.com

Researching music on All Music means a never ending cycle of new (to me) music to explore. Allmusic.com makes it so easy to see what (for instance) Blur is doing now - then you learn who the Gorillaz are, then you find out what other bandmates are doing. Learn about other groups that influenced early stuff by Blur and other groups that were peers who sounded similar. It just goes on and on.

MP3s came along during a musical dark age for me. Now I listen to so much newer music because it's so easy. The Recording Industry could cash in by simply using principals of the web to make discovery of new and old music easy and downloading cheap and easy. They'd do so much better by volume than they do charging $1 per song.

Despite recent reports that AllofMP3 is in danger of being overthrown by the RIAA, the media is now detailing litigation strategy that will allow it to remain operational until at least June, 2007.
