A funny thing appeared in a review of D-Link’s V-Click GSM/VoIP phone. D-Link sent a test unit to Yahoo Tech for review that was configured to connect to D-Link’s in-house network. Guess what D-Link’s SSID is? Get a closer look at the image to see for yourself.
The rivalry between engineers from D-Link and Linksys is not only hilarious but it makes for good copy as we wind down to the holidays. Hearing about what Gizmodo.com is calling iPhoneyGate is as clickable as a Paris Hilton naked link.
D-Link’s V-Click phone is a slick device featuring GSM through Cingular and T-Mobile and VoIP communications through your local Wi-Fi hotspot. The only complaints Christopher Null from Yahoo Tech had about the V-Click was that it was too slow. Not only was it taking up to ten seconds to respond to commands from the keypad but there is no 3G support and Wi-Fi is only 802.11b. Hardly on the cutting edge of blistering speed.
VoIP wi-fi is becoming a more common feature but still priced a bit outside the mainstream. Next year we’re sure to see prices plummet to affordable levels. Someday we’ll wonder how we got by without VoIP on all our cell phones.
