Gears of War Just Keeps on Turning

Microsoft Xbox360’s popular shooter Gears of War is eating up sales and Xbox Live usage records, spitting them out and looking for more to break. Since it’s release only a couple of months ago more people have played Gears of War than any other game at over two million. Even with Burger King’s alleged 2million in sales it’s still the top selling ‘real’ Xbox game title.

Records are not only breaking in total game sales but also on Xbox Live participation. According to Waterloo Ontario’s own Sandvine Incorporated, Xbox Live traffic has increased some 80 percent in North America. Among Sandvine’s statistics are over a million players, ten million game sessions and over seven million achievements unlocked on Microsoft’s record breaking game.

“We’ve always held high hopes for Gears of War, but we never expected such an overwhelmingly positive response from critics and gamers all over the world.” Says Michael Capps, president of Epic Games. “I can’t describe how stoked our team is right now. Our fans can absolutely count on Epic to keep delivering new gameplay through the Xbox Live.”

Oh, but Burger King games are for real.  Actually, it's pretty remarkable that Burger King is probably going to revitalize its floundering Whopper on account of the Xbox 360.  If that doesn't scream mainstream media status for games, I'm not sure what will.

Heavens knows the chainsaw-across-the-face effect in Gears of War won't do anything mainstream for games.  Maybe that's why I like it.

What a second...then there's that Donnie Darko inspired commercial...oh, wait.  Gears is mainstream.

Play it, people.  Enough early morning rambling.  Happy New Year!

Hey, BK games are just garbage. They give 'em away to sell more burgers, it's a hook, they're a bunch of noobs!

I don't see no BK games causing record usage on XBL

I read the "Burger King’s alleged 2million in sales" post.  I like where they mention that the BK games may be cheap but there are 3 of them.  I don't think many people would have bothered to pick up the BK games if they were an average game price.  Here you can get them for $4.99 bucks each or $12.99 for the 3 of them.  I think they were even down to $3.99 and were advertised as a Christmas present option.

Isn't that what the game remainder bins sell games for?  Heck I think the games in those bins are even $9.99 each.

Gears of War is a fun game and probably would have sold 10 times the number it did if it was the price of the BK games.  You can't compare the games sold number of those two games with their price difference.

Now the exact numbers revealing that success are rolling out, and it appears the Wii launch also trumped Microsoft’s 2005 holiday bonanza.  Still, the Xbox 360’s availability this year keeps it ahead of the pack overall.

The absence of service will continue until at least 2pm the next day, meaning you might as well go about looking for a job.

The game that will dethrone Halo has finally arrived!!! I was once a Halo fan, but since Gears of War came out, I switched side---yeah! We all know that everybody is waiting for Halo 3, but people from Epic games will somehow counter that with Gears of War 2 probably few months after Halo 3 is launch. It will happen---just wait!!!
