Xbox 360 Extended Warranty: Now What?

Recently, Microsoft announced that it would be officially extending its 90 day warranty on the Xbox 360 to a full year.  That means anyone with the console, be it the problematic launch edition or those divvied out now, will have technical issues repaired without charge for a full 365 day period.  However, many gamers are left wondering: where does that leave the extended warranty I purchased before the announcement?

For those who did extend their warranties, Microsoft has an answer.  Considering the much-reported issues with the Xbox 360's Red Circle of Death there are probably many, many gamers happy to hear that MS will be extending their coverage from the point where the one year standard warranty ends.  That means many owners, especially those owning two or three year extended warranties, could be protected for the entire life of the console.

Of course, those really left out in the cold, cold rain are those who purchased extended warranties from a retailer (like yours truly).  I purchased a three year protection plan from Future Shop, who, like Best Buy, EB Games, and Gamestop, are surely jumping for joy over Microsoft's decision to take on any future technical headaches.

Finally, those who did not purchase a warranty and paid for repairs in the past are eligible for a full reimbursement.

I can't forget about Wii kiddies... they are creepy as hell. Crazy yellow eyes, perpetually sullen expressions and magical motion sensing arms. Plus, they just creep out of cornfields. Jose not down with that.

Just another example of how Microsoft and Xbox360 is crushing the competition. Forget about Wii kiddies, this is the real thing.
