Apple iPhone Trademark Deal with Cisco Nearing?

When it comes to something like the Apple iPhone, news changes every second.  That seems to be the case here, as Apple nears an agreement with Cisco on rights to the iPhone name.

Just this morning we covered the looming clouds over Cupertino with Cisco's decade-long ownership of the iPhone tag.  Last month Linksys, a division of Cisco, unveiled their own iPhone, which utilizes VoIP technology.  Advanced, but not sexy.

A solution might be approaching, however.  The web is being flooded this morning with reports that Cisco is nearing a signed agreement with Apple, giving the latter full rights to market its new super-cell with the iPhone moniker.  In fact, the matter could be resolved by the end of today.

It's not clear what this means for Linksys' iPhone, but this most recent news certainly explains why Steve Jobs seemed so perky yesterday.

Whoa!  Seeing as the iPhone branding has already started with Apple, Jobs and Apple marketing/research team have no choice to but to fold to the will of Cisco and their legally binding trademark. Oh well.  Once again, Apple wins and fans will await the coming of the most anticipated smartphone since VoIP.
