LG Hybrid Blu-ray, HD DVD Player on Best Buy.com
Last week Wayde reported that the LG's new hybrid Blu-ray and HD DVD combo player was narrowly saved by the DVD Forum. How quickly things change, as today it appears as though big box retailer Best Buy has made the player available to the public.
Officially titled the LG BH100, BestBuy.com lists the device as "in stock", with purchases shipping from the company's warehouse in just one business day. It's a retail reality that could put a damper on the heated Blu-ray versus HD DVD dual.
The early opposition to LG's device surrounded the player's inability to play HD DVD interactive content. This meant that the official HD DVD logo could not appear anywhere on LG's product.
Despite all of this, for $1,199 consumers can discover the wonder of high definition playback – no matter the format. Just make sure you're packing that platinum Visa, as $1,200 triples the cost of most average HD DVD players.
