Although the Nintendo Wii had a massively successful holiday season, we here at Gizmo Café couldn’t help but wonder if the console was going to continue the game company’s tradition of exclusively allowing kid-friendly games. Neither the Gamecube nor the Nintendo 64 had much in the way of adult-oriented gameplay (aside from a couple Resident Evils), forcing most mature gamers to turn to the competition from Microsoft and Sony. However, the recent announcement that Scarface will grace the Wii is big news. Even if the game itself isn’t particularly amazing (and we don’t expect it will be), the mere arrival of a violent video game is nice to see on the Wii.
Scarface will join Electronic Arts’ The Godfather: Blackhand Edition as two titles meant to draw in the over-18 crowd. That’s a segment of the population that has proven elusive for Nintendo, with many mature gamers focused squarely on FPS and action releases elsewhere, such as Halo, Gears of War, and Grand Theft Auto.

But, wait just a second. There are actually rumors slowly wafting towards gamer noses of a Wii edition of GTA. Although no announcement has been made, the speculation is certainly growing. It may depend on the financial earnings of Scarface and Godfather as to whether Rockstar decides to damn the angelic Nintendo name. We hope they do.
At the moment, only Red Steel offers FPS adult-oriented gameplay on the Wii. Through the holiday season, the rather drab and dreary shooter sold over 200,000 copies, showing just how desperate Nintendo fans are for something with a little blood n’ guts.
There’s no release date currently set for Scarface on the Wii.
