Well, I hate to say I told you so. Actually, I really don’t think much of my prediction that if the Wii continued its success into the New Year, it would see developers who hadn’t shown much interest in Nintendo for years all of a sudden jump on the bandwagon. That appears to be the case with two very notable franchises from a pair of heavy-hitting game-makers, including Activision’s Guitar Hero and Electronic Arts’ Fight Night series.
A few days ago it was reported that both of Nintendo’s popular gaming machines – the DS and Wii – would receive versions of Guitar Hero. Although Activision will surely do something very different for each, the news has rockabilly fans of the Big N rightfully excited. Although details on the game are little more than speculation, Wii fans are hoping for even greater motion-sensitivity. DS owners, well, DS owners have no idea what is going to happen with their edition. According to Activision Publishing head Mike Griffith, both titles are planned for sometime during fiscal 2008.

More recent rumors surround Electronic Arts’ interest in cashing in on the Wii Sports boxing craze. EA has entertained many Xbox and PlayStation gamers with flashy joystick controls and stunning graphics for a few years now via the Fight Night franchise. In a recent interview, EA Sports producer Michael Blank remarked that the publishing giant felt “there are some exciting things we can do with the Fight Night franchise and the Wii.” This one remains little more than the random ramblings of a prominent game producer, but considering EA’s track record you can expect the Wii to enter the ring sometime in the next twelve months.
