LG Sues TTE Thompson Electronics over V-Chip

LG charges TTE is a deadbeat! The Korean TV manufacture says TTE is skipping royalty payments for the use of several of its technologies.

How the mighty have fallen! Thompson Electronics gave us classic TV brands like RCA, Magnavox and GE back in the day. The French consumer electronics company sold its TV manufacturing operations to Chinese upstart TCL now re-branded as TTE boasting the third largest TV operations globally.

LG placed a suit on Feb 10th to a US Disctrict Court in Texas. Within the suit are at least four patent infringements for V-chip, a program rating control system and a channel control technology. The Korean firm has been in talks with TTE since about 2005 to try and settle this dispute outside of court. But it looks like now it’s getting ugly.

TV manufacturers from all over Japan and Europe pay LG royalty for use of its patented technology. LG isn’t afraid to go to court to enforce its patents either. Using the courts LG has secured royalties from other electronics and appliance manufacturers over patent infringement.
