Treo Security Loophole Unofficially Patched

Symantec, the Pinkerton’s of the Internet who deal in frontier justice discovered a security flaw in Treo’s Palm OS. The smartphones Find feature can be accessed even when the Treo is locked down and requires a password. The Find feature can also be used to access an Edit window letting someone paste cut or copied data into a search field of a locked Treo.

A Palm OS programmer named Donald Kirker wrote a patch to take care of the Treo security vulnerability. It’s an unofficial patch that surfaced over at TreoCentral.com. The new patch disables the Find application while the device is locked, protecting data from someone trying to hack into your credit card numbers.
