Yahoo will make its services available on upcoming mobile devices that run Windows Mobile operating system. The new service named Yahoo GO! will be unrolled in an agreement with a Taiwanese mobile phone manufacturer, High Tech Computer Corp. HTCC happens to be the largest producer of Windows Mobile based smartphones. These are cell phones that have many added capabilities like Internet browsing, email and instant messaging and can run Windows programs while on the go.
The deal is of particular value to get the Yahoo brand out there to Internet users. Senior Director of Yahoo’s Mobile Phone Business says the Win Mobile Smartphone users are an attractive demographic to Yahoo in terms of both being tech savvy users and as an advertising base.
The deal with Win Mobile devices simply means several Yahoo services will be integrated into the operating system and accessible in a single click. Expect to see Yahoo search, email, maps and Flickr images built into the Win Mobile OS. This will help Yahoo stave off chief rival Google as computing goes mobile. Search engines (now morphed into full Internet service providers) must keep on their toes and be read to meet the challenges of an increasingly mobile and sophisticated user base.
