Whammy! Xbox 360's Guitar Hero II Peripheral Unresponsive

Yesterday, I covered the insta-success of RedOctane's Guitar Hero II on Xbox 360, the highly anticipated generation jump of the rhythm-based rocker.  Already a hit on Sony's PlayStation 2, it wasn't much of a surprise that the re-vamped white guitar and, to a much lesser degree, improved graphics would lead to impressive reviews.

Unfortunately, not all seems to be harmonic in the land of 360, as reports surface that some of the game's shipped guitars feature weak whammy bars (a key input).

In the 24 hours since its release, some 350+ gamers have dugg gamestooge.com's report on the story.  According to the website, RedOctane has allegedly shipped a pair of different guitars, with one of them susceptible to an unresponsive whammy bar.  The problematic peripheral features a pedal jack next to the power cord (guitar on the bottom in picture at left)

Still, rumors are just that.  Gamestooge itself admits that "there is disagreement over whether there is even a problem".  At this stage, the reports could simply be link bait.

No replacement or recall has been announced, although this may spur on a few gamers to simply wait for the release of RedOctane's widely rumored wireless controller.

I am having other problems with the guitar right now. The green fret button is not responding, and the strum button is barely working...

I have it and it works!  Can't compare to anything else because this is my first time.  But as a first timer, I must confess that I did it until 1:00 am. ;)
