Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony, All Receiving Guitar Hero III this Fall?
Just a week after Guitar Hero II finally made its debut on Microsoft's next-gen Xbox 360 console, rumors are now flying that a third edition of the franchise could be on its way as early as this fall. Guitar Hero III would debut before Christmas on the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, Microsoft Xbox 360, and even the PS2, the series' original home.
Details were reportedly posted on developer RedOctane's site before being hastily ripped down. Although GameSpot has been funneling readers into the game maker's support center where the news first aroused gamer interest, little evidence now exists.
However, the idea of bringing one of the most successful franchises to as many popular consoles as possible is hardly a far-fetched idea. Few would doubt that Nintendo's money-making Wii, Microsoft's established Xbox 360, or Sony's powerful PlayStation 3 would receive their own versions of the arthritis-inducing rockfest.
What may be in doubt is the date. With Microsoft's console recently receiving its own version and a number of unique updates planned for Xbox Live, it may be difficult for RedOctane and new owner Activision to coordinate a quattro-console fall 2007 release.
