Up until recently, the Wii’s ability to head online was limited to a beta browser known as Opera. Although owners of the console have yet to be granted a
framework for meeting each other online in a Wii Sports baseball match, Opera has at least been upgraded to a full version, granting users more options than in the past. Unfortunately, complaints from Nintendo fans persist, with a few still not sure the experience is worth the company’s time or resources.
Some of the best additions coming out of Opera’s growth include search engine optimization and customization, click-and-drag functions, and an overall quicker loading time. Finally, text is clearer when zooming in and out, while the option to hide Opera’s toolbar has been added to give users more space for viewing browsers.
In an odd twist, Nintendo is offering the grown-up Opera free from now until the end of June. After that period, however, new users will be required to cough up 500 Wii Points, or $5.
While that program is questionable, Nintendo owners still have suggestions for future Opera add-ons. Forums posters demand a USB keyboard, support for Flash software, while others lament at the clarity in 480p.
One step at a time, folks.
