Nintendo Wii Design Justified by PricewaterhouseCoopers in ’07 Predictions

PricewaterhouseCoopers released a report predicting the video games market will surpass music in the US, UK and Australia. In its report PwC says videogames are a big growth segment of the consumer electronics market. The report cites that video game spending grew 14.3% in ’06 that’s $31.6 billion dollars spent by gamers.

The report predicts an annual growth rate of 9.1% and a global video games market that swells to $48.9 billion by 2011. The Asia/ Pacific region will be the big spenders in video gaming as the report predicts they’ll spend 18.8 billion on video games in 2011.

What’s the reason PwC predicts video games will be such a positive growth market in consumer electronics? According to Marcel Fenez of PricewaterhouseCoopers it’s two things: Online, wireless gaming and the second element - the rise of the casual gamer.

If you’ve attended a Wii party lately you’ve seen how causal friendly games can bring in people you’d never thought you’d see playing games. It’s what Shigeru Myamoto has been saying all along, targeting the casual gamer will bring a big leap to the growth of the video games market.
