The latest twist in the saga of SunRocket’s demise involves what looks like a new broadband phone service called Teleblend. Ostensibly the new service is dedicated to delivering SunRocket’s denizens from its dial tone dereliction. But who is this new face that claims to be SunRocket’s official replacement?
Beware of white knights who appear at exactly your hour of need!
An official statement was finally released today that says SunRocket has indeed gone out of business (only 4 days after service was cut off!). The liquidation of SunRocket is being assisted by Sherwood Partners LLC from Palo Alto, CA who issued the statement.
For the purposes of creditors to SunRocket INC they’ve officially nominated Packet8 and Teleblend to take on SunRocket’s customer base.
A look at MyTeleblend.net shows the promise of a Quick & Easy Transfer for all of SunRocket's customers, who were dropped from their phone service with no warning earlier this week. Looking for a fix and possibly compensation for outstanding contracts is just what many of SunRocket’s former subscribers are seeking.
Just who is this white knight anyway?
The Teleblend website looks like something that was cooked up in a matter of hours and doesn’t instill much confidence in the service. GizmoPasswords did a whois on the domain and found it was only registered yesterday. Teleblend certainly started to look like a scam.
But according to Sherwood Partners, Teleblend is just an arm of Unified Communications Corp.
That should allay the fears that Teleblend is just an opportunist ready to take advantage of SunRocket customers. But where does that leave the general public’s impression of the reliability of VoIP services in general?
While it’s true that VoIP is not as reliable as a regular voice telecomm service, it’s come a long way in the last few years and today provides vast numbers of homes and businesses solid service and support. You just have to watch out for the odd SunRocket blowing its engines.
