Nintendo is in some serious trouble with these recalls, it's not good press at a critical juncture in trying to capture a user base for Wii.

DS is still king of the porta-gamers, I don't think there is any question there.

What do I think? I think this article is terrible. Why you may ask?

well, your headline. yes. wii and ds recalled. good job buds, completely misleading.. ds ac adapters.. yes.. they may have been recalled.. but not the ds. and the wii? well, first of all. "wrist straps" should have been in the title. and recalled should have been removed.. since there is no recall at all. rather, nintendo is offering replacements for those (idiots mind you) who cant seem to simmer down and hold on the their wiimotes.

Ive been thinking about this for some time, and lawsuits are not in nintendos future. they are by no means a dumb company, and they have MANY disclaimers and a safety guide that would no doubt place the liability on the user who was foolish enough to ignore the instruction manual and start THROWING the wiimote as if it were a real bowling ball.

The strap provided is MORE than adequate for someone who plays the wii like a sane person. Using the full range of motion while playing the game is one thing, I do that, and My wiimote, my body and all my electronics are far from damaged. its when people start throwing the wiimote, like a 90mph fast ball. of COURSE that will end up breaking the strap, especially if you let go of the remote. It really isnt that hard to hold on to.

*sigh* I say that most people getting hurt or breaking their tv and computers deserve whatever punishment the fates are dealing out. In fact from what ive seen some of these people get off light.

These people are morons. Real golf clubs, baseball bats, or tennis rackets do not have wrist straps and people usually manage to hold on to them without being told they need to. Nintendo should tell them to stick it.

I was playing wiisports and having a pretty good time but my palms sweat, you know, when I'm being really active so during an especially agressive move the wiimote slipped out of my hand, flew across the room and hit the cat. The cat, we later found out, was unharmed, but she had been sleeping and was mighty surprised to be hit with a white remote control type thing. Anyway, she woke up suddenly when she was hit and lept off the couch where she had been curled up in a ball with her tail tucked over her nose. This would have been troubling enough, but we have a fish tank behind the couch on a nice wrought iron stand and she landed in it. Catherine's, that's the cat's name, splash down knocked the whole thing over, spilling water, fish, gravel, plastic pirate ship, treasure chest, little diver guy, and those plants (what are they called?) across the floor in a tsunami. The wave traveled across the foyer area until it reached the wall, then bounced back towards the couch. Catherine had just regained her senses and leaped again to escape the returning wave, this time landing on my wife with all claws extended in fear. My wife screamed and stood up from the easy chair where she had been watching me play the game, spilling Catherine to the floor and knocking over the dried flower arrangement she insists on keeping on the end table even though it gets knocked over all the time. Catherine took this opportunity to escape the room, and the dried flowers fell onto one of the few dry spots in the room. The water eventually reached the power strip we keep under the couch for plugging in the laptop, which then burst into sparks. Some of the sparks landed on the dried flowers which burst into flame. My wife screamed and ran to the door, but she slipped on a fish (poor Nemo!), fell into the door frame knocking her head, and collapsed to the floor in a daze. I got the kitchen fire extinguisher and managed to put of the fire, but not before the couch got awfully scorched on that one side next to the end table. Anyway, my wife is OK but the cat always leaves the room when I play wiisports, and I had to vacuum all the water out of the carpet using the shop vac until 2am. Most of the fish survived, but the little plastic diver guy broke, and of course Nemo was squished. It's nice Nintendo is replacing the straps, but what about our couch, my fish, our carpet, my wife's dried flower arrangement (which I never liked anyway, but which cost $27.50), and the pet therapist for Catherine?

For those Nintendo fans who think we're actually anti Nintendo, you're sorely mistaken. We here at Gizmocafe have very fond memories of the NES, SNES, and all systems since. If we felt differently, we wouldn't have combed the earth (well, it felt that way) looking for a system to test for our upcoming review.

Hey, the Wii is very cool and we here at Gizmo realize that there's no reason to be whipping the Wiimote around, injuring animals, fish, plants. For the most part it comes down to a simple wrist motion, whether that takes the fun out of it or not (it doesn't).

What a weird story. My " wii" is causing me problems, probably due to them chinese tat make it ) anyway back onto the real subject my palm released it recently and it went "whossssh" and nearly broke the 42 " >T>V!

I agree with all of the people who think this article is stupid. Sorry if I missed this (I just skimmed everything) but the wrist straps are not actually connected to the Wii mote in fact they can easily be detached from the Wii mote. I think its great how Nintendo is even giving tho option of the wrist straps since yes people do manage to hold on to things in real life!!! (Yes I now its amazing!!!) They really should rename the article...

you bought the Wii, you knew the risks you take, why, I remember when I had my SNES, and playing F-Zero, you get into that game so that you start leaning the way you want to turn. Well I leaned, and went to far, and broke through a window, and fell ten stories onto a bed of spikes that was being set up by a street performer. I haven't bought Nintendo products since. I realize that having fun is just not worth it.

That's all the motion you need to play any game. Plus, if you don't believe or understand physics - or geometry - time relative to a constant speed is reduced when the start and ending points are closer together. Swinging hard at 10km/h between a 3' span is slower then the equivalent speed between a 6" span. Do you math. All you Wii-Fans make me laugh.

A lot of people are breaking things with the wii. There in no way dumb as many of you keep saying. My friend said the same thing as a lot of you, but now his cousin and a couple of other people we know broke there tv with the wiimote. Needless to say he changed his tune :p
