What you said about the release of new consoles does leave developers to overcome a little up hill battle. How to maximize the gameplay and graphics for these next-gen machines. Expect to see things rolling back around sometime after June/July, when game design and dev gets back on the horse and starts pushing out games for all 3 systems. Personally, any company making exclusive games - BioShock - for any console will be at that "make or break" point if their roster doesn't bolster other quality cross-platform titles.

re: Despite Wii, PS3 Hype, Game Companies Struggling

The results from new consoles coming out aren't going to be felt by '06 stats, except for Xbox360 of course. This year will be the year sales figures from the new consoles will come around

The sucessful game is a crap shoot. Only a small handful make any money at all. The rest are a bust. It's too bad they're so expensive to make, they don't need to be such big productions, just have good gameplay.

re: Despite Wii, PS3 Hype, Game Companies Struggling

I'll be honest - this is a mild report on something that will become a hot topic in the next 6 months. Costs for dev are ballooning (see recent UK study).. Wii titles roughly 15 million to produce, and X360 and PS3 20 odd million to produce. Couple this with a hardware sale rate that is almost 1/2 the rate of PS2 at launch (when we have an even bigger market now).. its disaster in the making for many companies.

Microsoft Xbox 360 Patch – Who Does it Hurt?

The rather sneaky move by Microsoft has some gamers, especially those who have modded an Xbox in the past, wondering if it’s a wise move.

PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 Star Wars Delayed: A Sign of Things to Come?

As developers come to grips with the latest in next-gen console technology, game delays like this may become more and more frequent.

Nintendo’s Future Wii Features Foolish

I wasn’t overly excited over Nintendo’s decision to devote time to a news or weather channel for the Wii, and the these initiatives are equally puzzling.
