Mom’s Big Gift
Canon HV10
If there’s one thing Moms love (at least, we hope), it’s their kids. Whether it’s little Billy terrorizing cousin Bobby and giving him a bloody nose or Sally shredding the wrapping on her Christmas gift, there’s always something going on with the little tykes. Good or bad, memories like these are generally worth remembering. Christmas day is always an emotional event, and is even more so with little ones; so why not record all of the happenings with the finest camcorder on the market?
What’s so special about it?
The Canon HV10 isn’t your typical camcorder. Personally, I remember most home movies - particularly those of me beating up my cousin - to be streams of grainy, muddy, albeit entertaining images. Although the memories they caught are priceless, none of the camcorders from my childhood - or even those in the last few years - have done them justice. To say the least, the picture quality certainly hasn’t rivaled Dad’s DVD movies .
However, those days could be over. Not only does the HV10 record in high definition, but it does so in 1080i. That means you can see every shade of red in Sally’s dress or Bobby’s bloody nose. Each image is photo quality, meaning even those impromptu sessions where Mom tracks everyone’s movements on Christmas morning will look as professional as is technologically possible.
Don’t own an HDTV? Although high definition is sweeping the nation (and the world), many people are still without a television capable of showcasing it. Thankfully, Canon has thought of those who are not yet willing to make the jump. The HV10 includes a number of different cables, including component, composite and USB 2.0, which will cover both standard and HD televisions.
Ok, so it rocks. How much does it cost?
The Canon HV10 is the best of the best when it comes to camcorders. Be prepared to shell out about $1,200 if you want your wife or mother taking home videos in high definition -considering the picture quality, it might just be worth it.
Note: Free software is available for your PC through mail when you purchase the HV10. Why they didn’t include it in the initial package we’re not sure, but hey, at least they’re not charging! This freeware gives you the ability to edit the footage you take, which could be very important depending on your home movie content...
We’d tell you to “keep it clean”, but where would the fun be in that?
