Cell phone style isn't just skin deep
Style is probably the first thing you notice when you see a line of phones at the store. Beyond your natural tendency to be attracted to certain colors, sizes and textures, you'll tend be attracted to one of three established cell phone styles. The three main styles include Smartphone, flip phone and candy bar style handsets.
But cell phone style isn't just a matter of esthetics. The style of phone you choose says a lot about the kinds of features you demand and by whipping it out in public you're saying something about yourself.
Slim and trim flip phones are the most popular choice for obvious reasons. They just look so damned cool. They're the smallest phones with a very narrow form factor and since they fold up, they'll end up being at least half the size of other phones.
Other people seek out specific features. You might have seen some of the trendy ads for a Rokr or Walkman music phone. Maybe the idea of watching TV, playing games or taking full-motion video images has captured your imagination. If you're looking for multi-media functionality, chances are good you're looking for one of the many candy bar styles of cell phones.
There's a reason the Rokr isn't a flip phone. The candy bar style is usually thicker, has a larger full color LCD screen for moving images in high def resolutions. The memory requirements of a cell phone that will be used to download, playback and store media are obviously larger than a simple phone that doesn't download music videos and ring tones. All that power comes at a cost of space which is at a high premium on any cell phone.
People who are attached to big bold and colorful LCD screens and have heard about the exciting features found on modern phones are already pre-disposed to appreciating the candy bar phones available. Phones with good LCD screens are available in a wide range of prices, so most people will be able to enjoy the luxury if they choose. Even the cheapest phones on the market - the ones that providers give away or sell for under $20 with a two year contract - come in stylish flip designs with colorful screens.
