Sony Ericsson Cell Phones

Sony Ericsson

Japanese electronics meets Scandinavian communications

Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications is a joint venture between Sony and Ericsson AB. Sony is a well-established Japanese consumer electronics firm that makes everything from TVs to audio gear. Ericsson is a Swedish mobile electronics company. As one of the largest mobile electronics systems in the world, Ericsson provides both hardware and services for the mobile electronics world. The joint venture between the two provides mobile electronics handsets that are some of the most advanced of their kind.

Sony Ericsson devices are seen worldwide and have active carriers in Europe, Americas and Asia Pacific. From sleek, well-designed mobile phones to fully functional PDA/Smartphones, Sony Ericsson has an array of choices with the mobile know-how of Ericsson fused with the popular branding of Sony's electronics.

The W600i is the Walkman phone. With a distinctive bright orange color, these stoutly rounded candy bar style phones feature a clever swivel keypad, a different take on the flip phone design. Cell phone, 1.3 Mpixel camera, 176x220 pixel TFT LCD display GSM 850/900/1800/1900 including Edge network support are just the starters on this full featured handset. Aimed at the music lover, this phone doubles as not only a digital music player with 256M built-in memory but also an FM radio with a variety of sound tailoring options like Sony's "Mega Bass" and a pair of ear-bud style headphones comes standard. Wi-fi and Bluetooth aware, this phone will have no problem connecting wirelessly to your network for more media downloads. It also supports USB and synchronization with your PC. The W800i takes it to the next level by bumping up the available memory to 1G.

The T616 is Sony Ericsson's top end Smartphone. With a 128x160 pixel screen it might be a little small to really take advantage of the Windows Mobile operating system, but this handset is small enough to fit comfortably into your jeans pocket. This is a tri-band cell phone GSM/GPRS and supports Bluetooth/Wi-Fi. 23 polyphonic ring tones are a definite plus. The T616 was a long-awaited member of the Sony Ericsson line and has met with rave reviews. The only real drawback may be the battery time, rated at 5 hours in practical the actual talk time might be more like 2.

Sony Ericsson doesn't shy away from clever designs like the swivel phone design of many of their phones. But users of these swivel models must beware as Sony Ericsson received many complaints about this design breaking under minimal stress. The candy bar style phones are quite stable devices when flip appendages are collapsed. Connections between sections obviously aren't as sturdy while expanded so effort must be applied to ensure you're extra careful with the unit's structural integrity.

Sony Ericsson is among the leaders in mobile technology and having access to Sony's branding may be a bit of a double-edged sword. Sony products come with a body of preconceived notions and some users might not be ready for a phone with the "Walkman" branding. But Sony is making every effort to reinvent itself, adding an infusion of Ericsson's fresh ideas and mobile engineering and service technology.
