Gaming Predictions
No more campers, just speculation
The party’s over. It’s the next morning, and like a New Year’s Day hangover, we’re all tired of hearing about the crazy night before, including Joe hitting on Jane right in front of Rick and what Bob fed the family pet. Ditto for all of the console launch hype. With 2007 now officially underway, it’s time to move past who won November and December sales. And, as tough as it seems, we’ve all got to get over the “Wii Elbow” phenomenon. New wrist straps are on their way. We’re thinking Nintendo-licensed, wide-receiver-like gripping gloves can’t be far off, either.
It’s a new year and time to take a closer look at what’s in store for the coming 365 days.
Unlike a year ago, the next-gen war is now a three-horse race. That makes it far more exciting, and as the year ends neither Sony nor Nintendo will still be able to claim sweet youth and innocence as a reason for crummy game libraries. On the flip side, Microsoft will have to continue its parade of quality titles in order to prevent the appeal of newer, more innovative (Wii) and more powerful (PS3) consoles from stealing the Xbox 360’s thunder.
Gaming predictions: break it down
We’ll separate this brief guide into four simple sections. Within each console’s dedicated partition you’ll find predictions on games, online activity, and a general outlook. No tomfoolery goin’ on here.
It’s much more exciting with Sony and Nintendo entering the raceWhat are the big titles this year?
In each part we’ll take a closer look at each console’s 2007 games, peripherals, online plans and general outlook. Here are some highlights:
Guitar Hero II (Xbox 360)
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots (PS3)
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii)
In addition, we’ll do some speculatin’ on the growth of each home system. Microsoft is set to keep rolling out HD content, the PS3 online community looks to grow in size with its library of games, and Nintendo works to get some form of multiplayer going without simply splitting screens. In addition, there are a few big titles not yet officially set for release.
Will Halo 3 land, finally allowing Xbox 360 gamers the chance to wipe out the Covenant for good? Can Metroid Prime 3: Corruption make sure fewer than ever players give a rats ass, by introducing worthy console competition to Bungie’s massively popular FPS? Will the PS3 make all of this moot? Let’s get started.
